In addition to riding, the Chrome Divas coordinate one fundraising event a year. This year the Elgin community was selected for the second year in a row. The goal was to raise enough funds to purchase toys for children of low income families during Christmas. The labor day weekend weather was perfect and 60 eager bikers were ready to try out their luck. The Christian Motorcycle Association blessed the bikes and three groups headed out. The 98 mile scenic ride went along Lake Wateree with stops along the way to wet the riders whistle: Thunder Tower HD, Gadgets of Camden, The Flamingo at Hwy 97, The Kickstand, Windmill Restaurant, and finally to the Chrome Divas Clubhouse in Elgin. While the riders were turning in their cards, The Zeeny Cobb band was playing Southern Rick tunes. The bikers feasted on traidional Southern food (not your typical hamburgers and hotdogs poker run) and side dishes. Enough to satisfy everyone. The newlywed game was played with a tie among two couples. Prizes were awarded and donated back to the money pot. Additional door prizes provided by sponsors were also distributed. All in all over $4000 was collected and over $700 worth of toys donated. It was a blessed event indeed. This is an annual event for the City of Elgin and thier police department and the Chrome Divas were honored to be a part of it again this year. 2010 update- 34 families benefited from this fundraising event. In addition to toys, groceries were distributed to them.
